Lol, serious question - had they established combustion engines and motorcycles existed in this world in any of the episodes prior? You also have consider why no-one has guns either in that case. This isn’t final fantasy afterall and the race just seems incongruous with the setting.

Hi ;-) I'll try to give you a serious answer - Your points are well taken and valid. However, I try not to take watching anime too seriously. I'm here to enjoy the show, as long as plot holes aren't too egregious OR (applies here) if I just really like the series I'm willing to suspend judgements and sit back and enjoy the ride (pun intended). Those bikes were amazing lol, the ep was kinda a nice change of style to me. Thrill me! Surprise me! Make me sad, make me happy, make me angry - engage me. Success! To be fair later they have jet powered air balloons and laser cannon : production team has just done a terrible job at establishing tech level in this series - glad you liked the race!

It really was great! I think in some small corner of my brain I just accepted they had the technical abilities to explain them appearing, I mean the world building is pretty amazing so the bikes didn't seem to be too much of a stretch to me.
